Autumn in full color

I love parks. Most of my friends prefer to chill out in bars and night clubs, but I’m not really into that kind of stuff. What’s the point in spending a lovely autumn evening indoors? When trees are burning in the dark like giant candles and street lamps swim in puddles together with fallen leaves, it’s a shame to sip beer at the counter! Me and Tiff often go for a walk in the Public Garden. At 8 p.m., I meet her after work and we head straight there. It’s so great to stroll down an empty alley with someone you love, saying anything that comes to mind or just holding hands in silence, taking in all this beauty! One day I hope to paint a picture just as perfect as our dates!

But seems like someone has beaten me to it :)

The painting is by Leonid Afremov, an Israeli impressionist whose name was mentioned by one of our professors at today’s lecture. I’m always eager to learn new stuff on my favorite subject, so once I came home, I started googling and ended up in Mr. Afremov’s personal gallery. Paintings by Leonid Afremov have that inexplicable charm that keeps you gazing at them until your laptop screen turns off. Bright colors pull you eye like a magnet. My painting teacher Mrs. Chen has always cautioned us against putting too much into our works. That certainly doesn’t apply to Leonid Afremov! Somehow he can make all those shades work together as one perfect ensemble.

·         The warm orange of the lanterns sets off the blue coldness of the night park.

·         The sky is filled with specks of red, yellow, green, blue and violet. They seem to be growing right on naked tree branches!

·         The alley is covered with multicolored reflections and long streaks of light echoing the string of lamp posts in the background.

Altogether, the painting is so beautiful, festive and at the same time cozy that it looks good enough to buy! A story for inspiration

I’ve always admired people with impaired abilities who live a full life despite their condition. All those stories about sportsmen who lost their legs and still won a championship wearing prostheses or blind artists painting masterpieces really inspire me. I mean, we like complaining that we don’t have enough to make our dreams come true, but look at them! They don’t have anything! Yet they’ve achieved more than any of us could ever thought! I read an article recently telling about a Broadway musical with deaf actors. Since they couldn’t hear the music and didn’t know when to start singing, the producer included a whole system of visual signals like gestures by hearing actors or color-coded stage lights to clue them in. It was all part of the show, so the viewers didn’t realize the deaf singers were actually prompted to sing. To the audience, it looked like they were performing all on their own. I’m not a great fan of theater, but I’d really love to see that with my own eyes! Deaf people singing, can you imagine anything like that? It really motivates me to keep singing in the shower, hehe. But I’ll spare the ears of my roommate and go painting instead. I feel it’s gonna be something special today!

I’m a beginning artist and simply a good guy looking for like-minded people. My name is Jeffrey Skitters, I’m 23 and I study art at Lesley University. My girlfriend Tiffany says I have quite a talent. After classes, I go to the central park and paint pictures for sale. It can be a park view, someone’s portrait or simply my own thoughts. This is actually how I met Tiff. I saw a girl on the bench; she had a very sad but beautiful face, still wet with tears. She was sitting there quite long staring blankly into space, unaware that I was painting her all that time. When I was finished, I came up to her, gave her the picture and said everything was going to be ok. In a couple of hours, we were kissing on a bus, hehe. Turned out her ex dumped her that day, what an idiot! Well, good for me, hah. So if you ever see a tall dude in a striped hoodie propping up his easel somewhere near Brewer Fountain, say hi :)
